| SoftBooking comes with a database backup utility, so you can easily and quickly backup and restore your system.
|
|
|
 Accessing the backup screen
|
|
|
|
| The backup facility can be accessed in two ways:
|
| · | First: if you are running SoftBooking, close the software, you will be asked if you wish to run a backup, press yes – the backup screen will now open.
|
| · | Second: if you are not running SoftBooking you can click on the backup utility icon on your desktop – the backup screen will open.
|
| The Backup Screen
|
| Once you opened the backup facility, the backup screen will open, this screen is laid out as a screen with two tabs at the top; the first tab is titled local device the second Internet; The screen automatically opens into the local device tab.

| The screen is then further split into two halves, the top half of the screen is titled Backup Database while the bottom half of the screen is titled Restore Database.

| Backing up

| To a local location
|
|
|
|
| To back up your database onto a memory stick, CD, disk or just onto your computer, stay on the tab Local Device and use the top box titled Backup Device.
|
| You will need to first press the button titled '…' at the end of the box titled Backup To, this will open up a screen titled Backup to from this screen you must select where you want to save your backup: CD, memory stick, Desktop, etc, and then press the OK button at the bottom of the screen. You will now be returned to the Backup screen, a large button titled Backup should now be visible, press this button and wait for the message Database Backup Completed Successfully to appear, your database is now backed up to the selected location

| To the internet

| To back up your database to the internet select the tab Internet and use the top box titled Backup Database.
|
| To backup you simply need to press the button titled Backup, a box will appear showing the progress of your backup, when this process is complete a message box will appear and your database will be backed up onto a SoftBooking server.

| Before you can use the internet backup and restore facility, you will need to subscribe to SoftBooking internet backup service, more details of this can be found at www.SoftBooking.co.uk/internetbackups. If you are not subscribed to this service when you select the tab titled Internet from the backup screen a box will appear prompting you to enter an activation code, this code can be obtained by calling the number also available on screen.

| Restoring a database

| From a local location
|
| To restore a database from a local location, for example, memory stick, CD, disk or just onto your computer, stay on the tab Local Device and use the bottom box titled Restore Database.
|
| You will need to first press the button titled '…' at the end of the box titled Restore From, this will open up a screen titled Open from this screen you must select where you want to retrieve your backed up database from, for example, CD, memory stick, Desktop, etc, and then press the OK button at the bottom of the screen. You will now be returned to the Backup screen, a large button titled Restore should now be visible, press this button and wait for the message Database Restore Completed Successfully to appear, your database is now restored.

| From the internet

| To restore your database from the internet select the tab Internet and use the bottom box titled Restore Database.
|
| In this area of the screen there is a box which displays all your databases currently held on the SoftBooking server, simply select the database you wish to restore and press the button titled Restore a box will appear showing the progress of your restore, when this process is complete a message box will appear and your database will be restored to your computer.
